New equation of state for thin foam films
Article Abstract:
Phase diagrams are constructed for thin films stabilized with nonionic surfactants by treating disjoining pressure (II) versus thickness curves of foam films like p-v(sub m) isotherms of real gases. New experimental data are provided which clearly illustrate under which conditions subcritical, and supercritical films are formed, the common black film (CBF) to Newton black film (NBF) transition is reversible, and CBF and NBF coexist.

Cathodoluminescence investigation of residual stress in [Er.sup.3+]:YAl[O.sub.3] thin films grown on (110) SrTi[O.sub.3] substrate by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition
Article Abstract:
YAl[O.sub.3] thin films doped with different amounts of [Er.sup.3+] are grown directly onto (110) SrTi[O.sub.3] substrate by using the metal-organic chemical vapor deposition method (MOCVD). The results have shown that the residual stress in [Er.sup.3+]:YAl[O.sub.3] films are compressive in nature and increased with increasing [Er.sup.3+] dopant concentration.

Bimodal swelling responses in microgel thin films
Article Abstract:
The structural and pH response properties of microstructured polymer thin films are studied by using quartz crystal microgravimetry (QCM), surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The response to pH alteration is dependent on particle swelling and polyelectrolyte de-complexation.
